Birthday Wishes!
November 8th, 2009
One more year, and one more round of birthday cakes under my belt! I turned 29 last week and my friends pulled through with some delicious and ambitious cakes. Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes!

Maxine’s Donut Cake
It didn’t really taste like a donut, but doesn’t it look like one? Lemon chiffon cake with chocolate frosting.

you have some great friends to bake you those lovely cakes! Happy Birthday!
New topic, do you like Chicken Cacciatore? I love it and don’t see it on many menus these days. Noticed Lucia has it on her dinner menu this week, might have to indulge.

Hmmm Chicken Cacciatore – I can’t say that I’ve ever had it. Although I did a quick recipe look up and it looks like something I’d enjoy.
I would eat anything on Lucia’s menu anyway. I was there last Thursday night with a friend and we had the foccacia w/3 spreads – holy delicious! There was a slightly warm artichoke spread and it was so yummy.

Well, I’m not surprised you haven’t had Chicken Cacciatore (mean’s ‘hunter style’…as in…catcher/hunter, get it?) since it’s not on menus around here. Also not a ton of Italians in this part of the country. I grew up in upstate NY in the 60’s with many many Italians, many Sicilians and many red sauce restaurants with Chicken Cacciatore. It’s chicken done with a yummy sauce that involves browning the chicken, sauteeing peppers, capers, onions some wine and some tomato sauce……..mangia! and of course it’s traditionally done with the dark meat which is of course the yummy part. Cossetta’s does an ok steam table version but it’s too salty. I found a Giada Laurentis recipe online that I may try. Just bought some dry vermouth to put in it.

Yo Pip, I have finished all of your birthday cakes, and am hungry again, please post something. Have you had the strawberry napoleons at Patrick’s French Bakery in Bachman’s on Lyndale? Yummy. Also recently bought a brioche coffee cake there with raisins and walnuts, scrumptious! Can you tell it’s my munchy time of day? Happy Holidays and New Year from Faith!
